Buck The Atomic Ranger - Chapter Two

Buck the Atomic Ranger
Chapter Two
By: Roger Alderman

The long cylindrical Purple Pustule Poison spreading air ship fire their air to air lasers at a small rocket propelled target. The lasers are to slow to hit the target, as it races back and forth through along the exterior of the airship. Inside the small cockpit the pilot argues with his copilot, “Who is this clown?”

Buck races across the sky blasting the Public Pustule Poison spreading spaceships, “Take that you dastardly dimwits.” Buck fires a series of blasts from his Ray Gun disabling its rear rudder, as it burst into flames.

The Copilot gestures for the pilot to look at the exterior camera monitor, “I don’t know, but he’s dressed like the Masters’ arch enemy Atomic Ranger.” They look deep into each other’s face each holding desperation in the expression.

Buck banks and twists wildly around numerous laser blasts fired at him from two more Purple Pustule Poison Spaceships which has arrived during the heated exchange. He looks at the growing number of spaceships and shakes
his head, “Too many? I have to group them up
and take out the main vessel.”

Buck narrowly avoids laser blast after laser blast. He takes aim and shoots his Ray Gun in full automatic mode at an airship. The airship explodes and falls from the sky. The Main air ships Pilot looks to copilot in terror, “There is no way we’re going to beat this guy. Power up the Death Ray and target century city.” Copilot nods in understanding and leaves the cock pit.

Meanwhile inside the Planetary Police Patrol headquarters, Captain McIrish and staff watch the battle above the city with the help of a massive computer screen. Officer Leon stands and turns to the Captain.

“Sir, you need to see this,” Officer Leon states to Captain McIrish. Captain McIrish moves to the officer’s side and looks at his monitor, “Is that what I think it is?”

Officer Leon’s terrified expression tells him all he needs to know. Captain McIrish rushes to the communication console. He snatches up the microphone and presses the send button, “Atomic Ranger! Atomic Ranger, can you hear me?”

A series of laser blast nearly hit the exceptionally nimble Atomic Ranger. He notices his wrist communicator light up and presses the button to activate it, “Yes, captain, I am receiving you. What’s wrong?”

The pilot locks his ships most devastating weapons on Atomic Ranger, as he pauses to answer his wrist radio. The Pilot smiles devilishly, as he uses the control stick trigger to open fire on Atomic Ranger, “DIE! RANGER! DIE!”

The villainous spaceship fires numerous blasts at Atomic Ranger. Buck’s rocket pack takes the hit and explodes. A great fiery ball falls from the sky, as a fearful city watches its hero burn for a second time.

Captain McIrish and Staff stare at the screen in horror, as they watch the Rocket Pack explode and cry out in unison, “Atomic Ranger, NO!”

Buck emerges from the fiery ball explosion and slams against the side of the ship. Buck raises his wrist radio, “Captain, I am okay the explosion caught me off guard, but managed launched me against the ship.”

Captain McIrish and Staff seem relieved, as on their screen the smoke clear’s reveals Atomic Ranger clinging to the outside of the main airship, “Thank god.” Tension returns to the Captain’s face, as he speaks into the Radio, “Atomic, we are not out of danger yet.”

Atomic Ranger clings to the side of the ship, “What’s going on Captain?” Buck listens carefully to the wrist communicator, as the Captains voice breaks through the static, “That airship you’re on. You can’t just blow it up?” Atomic Ranger pauses, as he pulls out a block of industrial explosives from his pocket, “why not?”

Captain McIrish nervously explains, “That ships power core has been switched into high. They were going to use their Death Ray on the city. You have to disable it. Otherwise the attack will hit with the power of an Atomic Bomb!”

Atomic Ranger lowers his head and nods, “All right, I understand.” Buck pulls his pocket-sized plasma cutter out of his pocket and cuts a hole in the side of the ship large enough to gain entree.

Pilot looks out of his side window searching for any sign of Buck and calls into his microphone, “Pilot to Copilot?” The Copilot in the weapon room attaches additional power lines to the Death Ray pauses with a look of bewilderment, “Copilot here, go ahead, Pilot, are you there?”

The Pilot slumps unconscious into his seat, as Atomic Ranger exits the cockpit. The Copilots voice echoes through the ship wide communication system, “Copilot to pilot, go ahead?” Moments pass and the copilots calm ends and he storms to the weapons room door.

The weapon room door opens and Atomic Ranger tackles the Copilot and the tumble back inside the room. The Atomic Ranger raises his Ray Gun at the Copilot whom turns white as a ghost. Copilot raises his hands frantically, “No don’t shoot in here you’ll blow us both up!” The Copilot points to the over charged Death Ray.

The Atomic Ranger nods in understanding and puts his weapon down and dives onto the Copilot. They fall to the ground and struggle against one another. The Copilot punches the Atomic Ranger with a body shot. The Atomic Ranger thrusts a knee deep into the Copilots abdomen. The men roll apart and stand facing one another.
Copilot pulls a long-serrated steel combat knife. The Atomic Ranger shakes his head in disbelief of the Copilots dirty fighting style, “Really?”. The Copilot smiles and launches a series of slashes at the Atomic Ranger. The Atomic Ranger grabs the Copilot’s wrist and wrestles the knife away, but takes many punches for his focused attention.

The Atomic Ranger unleashes a volley of strikes at the Copilot. The Copilot stands dizzy from the series of punishing punches. The Atomic Ranger draws back and throws a haymaker which knocks the copilot down, “Please, no more. I beg of you.”

Atomic nods in accepted surrender and walks to the Death Ray and rips the power lines out of the weapon, “Start talking who sent you?” The Atomic Ranger disables the Death Ray permanently by ripping its controls apart, “Well, what do you have to say, villain?”

“The True Atomic Ranger’s killer of course,” Buck looks to the Copilot in confusion at his response. The Copilot slowly makes his way back to his feet, “Doctor Chaos. Surly you have heard of him.” “He was the one who killed,” Buck begins and is interrupted by the Copilot. “Your father,” declares the Copilot, as he stealth fully draws another combat blade.

Buck can find no words at the straight forward declaration of the guilty party for his father’s death. The Copilot raises his blade ready to continue a fight he had already given up on, “They both spent years learning about the other. We know everything about your family.”

While Atomic Ranger looks distracted with the facts and disabling the Death Ray. The copilot decides to strike and plunges the combat blade into the abdomen of the distracted Atomic Ranger. Buck clutches his wound, as the Copilot leaps from the airship. Buck collapses to the floor in a bloodied heap of human flesh.
